Call to Order and O’Canada

President’s Comments:

President’s Comments: Stephen began the meeting by introducing Nick Best and Dale White, 2 new members of the management committee. He then went on to explain that the last newsletter of the meeting review was not sent out but is on the Probus web site. All the information you are looking for, related to Probus, can be found on the web site and if you can’t find it you can contact Stephen or any other member for clarification. Stephen also reminded members of PHISHING E-MAILS: DON’T SHARE PRIVATE INFORMATION WITH ANYONE YOU DON’T KNOW!


Announcements:

Chris Meleskie spoke about the following activities:

  • Black History Museum visit
  • Car Tour ( new date Oct. 10)
  • Camp Borden Military Museum visit
  • Breakfast Group
  • Lunch Group
  • Hiking Group
  • Angora Glass Tour
  • Cycling Group
  • Paddling Group (canoe for sale – see Carl)
  • Ice River Tour (great success)

Dan Edwards also mentioned the Probus Travel Group and there is still availability is for anyone wishing to be part of the Rideau Cruise in 2025. If interested contact Dan.


Profiler

Steve Magill, this month’s profiler, took us through his life from his beginnings in Toronto to his retirement in Collingwood with many stops along the way. His many life experiences allowed him to become a lover of sports, coach, teacher and Vice Principal in the high school in Shelburne, where he retired 36 years later. His love of skiing finally brought his to settle in Collingwood.

Kultural Attaché

**Walter ** kept us entertained with his many hillbilly, CIA, and Heimlich manoever jokes.


Guest Speaker

Don Stockman introduced Trish Rawn, a nurse for over 30 years and since 2019 has been the Executive Director of the Hospice Golden Triangle.

In Campbell House, Trish has been involved in providing many support services tailored to the needs of the community such as end of life, respite care, pain and symptom, and bereavement counselling. She now has expanded support programs for children and youth and special groups including loss by suicide and substance related deaths.

She concluded her presentation with a video called Margot’s Story that gave everyone a personal and realistic view on how Hospice really works and helps
