Michael began the meeting by talking about the Xmas event and party. It was mentioned that the numbers attending this event was not as high as other years. He then found out that the Collingwood Probus Club also had the same problem. Because of this Michael met with David Stamper, the president of the Collingwood Probus Club and they decided to try and have this Xmas event together next year. But to do this they would like the members of both clubs to and return fill out a survey and send it back to the clubs. From this survey, they will try to coordinate something for next year’s Xmas event. PLEASE FILL OUT THE SURVEY AND RETURN TO SENDER.
We are still looking for volunteers for the investment group and speaker’s committee. If interested, please talk to any member of the executive committee. Just a reminder that our club will be having a retreat next Wednesday to talk about the future of this Probus Club and what our goals should be.

Ron Mitchell brought to our attention that Dr. Don Paul passed away December 6. A longtime resident of Collingwood and a Collingwood sport’s fan buff, Dr. Don will be sadly missed. Michael and Carl spoke about the following activities:

Rob Woodman, this month’s profiler, is a very avid outdoor advocate. He’s married with a wife and three kids and spends his time between Toronto and Collingwood.
Rob graduated from Carleton University and from there took us through his life from his beginnings in Windsor to his retirement in Collingwood. His many life experiences included modelling, working at Canadian Tire to Price Waterhouse allowed him to become experienced in many things. The one thing that brought Rob to Probus was the social experiences that Probus gave to its members and believed that being socially active was beneficial to one’s mental health. His love of skiing and skiing finally brought his to settle in Collingwood.
Bill, who has taken over this responsibility from Walter, kept us entertained with his jokes involving the Scotsman at his first Blue Jay game, a lady in a grocery looking for broccoli, the OPP stopping a car on the highway with an elderly couple in the car who had a lot to say about each other and the Newfoundland chuckle . Thanks Bill!
Bill's stories for January can be found in the Member's section (login required).
Jeff Gage and Chloe Almas from the Collingwood Fire Department- Fire Prevention division introduced themselves and explained the different roles each played within the fire department. The presentation involved their role in the education, prevention and enforcement of fire safety.
