PROBUS Club of Blue Mountain

Friendship, Fellowship, and Fun

Welcome to Monthly Meeting

Thursday August 15th

Call to Order and O’Canada

President’s Comments:

Stephen only had a couple of issues he wanted members to be aware of. The first, is that membership fees will stay at $55 for returning members and $78 for new members. This is because the Legion has not raised it fees for its use next year.

Just a reminder e-transfers are the best way to pay for your membership.

Also, we are in need of an accountant or a retired accountant to look over our financial records for the past year. This job would take about 2 hours and it’s just to make sure we have kept our records in line with the laws required. If anyone knows anybody, please see Gene Peycha.

In Memoriam

Ron Mitchell informed members we had 2 members pass recently: Bill Hanke and Brian Hickey. A moment of silence was held for both.

New Members

We have 3 new members this month: Buzz Carroll, John Schram and Phil Stark. Ron Mitchell introduced Buzz Carroll to the members as he was the only that could attend that day.

Guest Speaker

Joy Pritchard-Kerr

George Pengelley introduced Joy Pritchard-Kerr, who has led the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital for 36 years and sits as a member of the CGMH Senior Leadership Team.

She talked about the present CGMH with its great programs and new technology, however, because the hospital is over 60 years old and the expanding population in the area is growing rapidly, a new CGMH is now in the works.

With assistance from the government and money from the surrounding municipalities and donations, it appears they’re well on their way to having the cost for such an endeavour paid for.

Joy then gave us an overview of the new CGMH with all the new modern technology and services it will provide for Collingwood and the surrounding areas. We are now in Stage 2 of a 5 Stage process with hopes that moving into the new hospital will begin in 2032. This new hospital will be situated beside Georgian College on Poplar Road.
