Message from the President

Happy September!

Hopefully, this finds you all well and double vaccinated. I say this because our October meeting is our AGM, and, after two years, it will be held at the Legion, IN PERSON.

Your Management Team has NOT forgotten how important PROBUS has been to all of us and we are so happy to announce the Club still active and alive!!!!

You'll see that all our groups are active and we're getting new additions to our roster of events. We are all looking forward to seeing you at the Legion, October 21st, for coffee and our first in person meeting in two years.

Our meeting in September is cancelled to give you a final summer break form Zoom.

Kindest Regards,
Eddie Sokoloff
President, Probus Club of Blue Mountain

Lawn Bowles Event

Thursday, August 26th, our Probus Club scheduled a day at the Collingwood Lawn Bowls Club. It was a warm summer morning of lawn bowling, certainly a lot of laughs and a great BBQ hamburger lunch cooked by our President, Eddie Sokoloff.

24 members and spouses joined in the great enjoyable sport of Lawn Bowling. A fun time was had by all because of the help Larry and Norma Gee and other members who volunteered to instruct and play along with our members. We owe this to David Dicks, our Events Co-ordinator who organized the day of un and frivolity.

Cycling Group

The cycling group has had had a good turnout this summer. A few rides were cancelled due to weather but we plan to rerun these in the fall. Check the Probus BM online ride schedule frequently to see these updates. Many are opting for “Pedelec” bikes and this is getting many out that may not have been able to keep up on regular bicycles. These bikes are in great demand and you may find that you will be on a waiting list to get one that you want. Let’s get out and enjoy the fall weather and the new more liberal rules for social distancing on the upcoming rides.

Paddling Group

The new paddlers group started up with two trips on two rivers this summer. We had 8 paddlers on the Lower Nottawasaga River on a slow float to Schooner town in July. We fortunately missed a tornado that day which happened to touch down in Barrie.

Our next trip in August was on the Beaver River which was a beautiful float down a scenic portion of the river to Heathcote.

We have a committee which will be planning new trips for next year and perhaps another trip this September. Stay tuned to the online Probus Blue Mountain Paddlers group page for information on upcoming events.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM is planned for October 21 @ 10 a.m. Details of the Agenda will go out on September 23. We need participation by all so please get involved.

Your Club urgently needs volunteers to fill the following positions. Please indicate your interest by e- mail to by September 15. Feel free to contact the current leaders about the positions.

  • Vice President - contact Doug Ellsworth
  • Auditor - contact Doug Smith
  • Computer Group Leader - contact Bill Booth
  • Investment Group Leader - contact Bob Sanelli
  • Legion Technical Support (Projector set up, Speaker presentation support) - contact Bill Booth

Don’t think of these positions as WORK ... Think of them as enabling your fellow members to enjoy the benefits of PROBUS.

No September Zoom

The Management Committee decided to forego the September Zoom meeting in large part due to the small attendance at the August Zoom. It was not fair to the guest speaker nor the organizing group to gear up for only 15 members. We do acknowledge that the weather was great, it’s still summer time, and Zoom is not the way we really choose to meet.

With any luck, our October AGM will be a GO at the Legion. Whatever the Ontario government decides on protocols will be followed. Vax x2!
